I love this year's new in-colors and the Berry Blossoms designer series paper! I've been wanting to make these pretty "gift boxes" and Stampin' Royalty's challenge was perfect for it: dress down and create a card with no embellishment. I didn't think I could do it (afterall, pearls are a cardmaker's best friend:), but I did! (ps. - found my markers to color in the "celebrate"!)

What a super time we had this Saturday at the Stampin Up Regional event at the Columbus Convention Center! Over 600 demonstrators and their guests enjoyed swapping cards, doing Make 'n Takes, watching demonstrations, learning new ideas. seeing lots of wonderful samples and making new friendships!

Founder and CEO, Shelli Gardner, kicked off the day and shared a project she is working on (baby shower favors for her daughter). Several Stampin Up employees shared their projects and ideas - so much fun! I even got to demo Paper Pansies (thanks to everyone who stopped by my booth to take a peak!)

Re-Organized Craft Room

Guess what I did ALL day Saturday?! My husband has been "obessessed" with redoing several closets and our utility room (The Container Store people know him by name!) With all the organizing and moving things around, I got another drawer unit and so I started reorganizing my craft room.

One thing lead to another which caused me to start cleaning out and moved around almost the entire room. I didn't think a small room could fit as much 'STUFF' as I have (I know you can relate). Other than needing more light (there's no overhead in this room), I'm getting used to it.

And here are a few of my favorite things...

I bought this ink holder/carosel a few years ago. It's really big, but I LOVE it (so much that I didn't paint it because I couldn't wait to put my ink pads and inks in it!)....

Sometimes there's just one small thing to spark an idea. When I saw this pattern paper, it just screamed: Stampin Up Large Bird punch! The Cardinal is the Ohio state bird (where I happen to reside) and I always think of Christmas when I see one! Hope you like it.

Let It Snow!

Let it snow! Well, I say that now because it's still 50 degrees. I'm sure I won't be saying that when there's 2 feet of the pretty white stuff on the ground and it takes 30 minutes just to get into my car! In any case, I do love looking out on a beautiful, fresh-fallen snow scene and this card reminded me of the beauty of the season.

Stampin Up Season of Friendship set is very versatile, all occasion set. It's in my stack of "go to" sets because I find I use it no matter what the season (see more samples below).

Paper Pansy Tutorial

Supplies Needed

Butterfly Punch
Refill inks (I use Elegant Eggplant and Daffodil Delight)
White cardstock (shimmery or plain works, too)
AquaPainter
Small water spritzer
Thin-tipped marker (I use Elegant Eggplant)

1. Punch out two butterflies from White Cardstock with butterfly punch and place on folded paper towel.

2. Spritz water a few times onto butterfly.

3. Dip AquaPainter into ink. Gently touch on edges of butterfly allowing it to go into the water. Ink will begin to spread and swirl. You may need to spritz again to get it to spread. You can outline the edges a little darker, if neccessary.

4. Add yellow ink to center.

5. Allow to dry or speed up the process with a heat gun.

6. Using a fine-tipped marker, draw lines in center starting from the middle of the butterfly and shooting out toward the edge.

7. Roll top and bottom part of butterfly around a thin paint brush or pencil. Then, flatten out a bit.

8. Layer butterflies - criss-cross - and put hole in the centers.

9. Fasten with brad (I use mini gold brads, but any coordinating fastener will do).

Crayon Resist Technique Tutorial & Challenge

Tuesday Morning Sketches brings this wonderful, oldie but a goodie technique to us today: Crayon Resist. It's a simple technique, but the results are anything but ordinary! You should try it!

Supplies:

Glossy Cardstock

White Crayon

Dye Inks

Sponges or Brayer

Tissue paper or paper towels

Step 1—Stamp image in black or other dark ink and color with white crayon where you want to highlight.

Step 2—Brayer or sponge to cover the entire glossy cardstock.

NOTE—You can use one overall color or several and blend them together.

Step 3—Use tissue paper or paper towel and rub over image. The ink won’t stick to the crayon.

Step 4—Finish card

This week is a fun challenge: Monochrome and/or Masculine theme:

3. MASH it all up and create a Monochromatic card that is for a Male!

Just wanted to CELEBRATE...Spring is FINALLY here! In between the historical amount of rain we've had, we've been blessed with a couple days of beautiful sunshine and warmer weather! It's the first time in a long time I don't care how bad my allergies are -- go bloom flowers and trees -- can't wait to see my first butterfly!

Emerging Color Tutorial & Challenges

My card (and tutorial) were inspired by

the Friday Mashup Embossing Nature Challenge, Mojo Monday sketch challenge, and ColourQ color challenge.

Supplies:

Dye Ink (lighter & darker colors)

VersaMark

Solid stamps

Brayer

Clear embossing powder

Heat tool

Paper Towel

Powder Pal or paper plate

Step 1—Stamp smaller solid stamps in light colors all over cardstock.

Step 2—Ink main image in VersaMark and stamp over smaller, colored images.

Step 3—Place cardstock into Power Pal or plate and pour clear embossing powder over entire image and tap off excess powder.

Step 4—Heat powder with heat gun until melted.

Step 5—Ink your brayer with a darker color and apply to entire cardstock piece. Keep adding color until desired depth.

Step 6—Wipe off ink from embossed image.

I cut out the image, but it looks great just trimmed and mounted on coordinating cardstock.

Serengeti - A La Card Monkey Challenge

I just love it and can't seem to part with it...now I have a design to use it with!!

Embossing Resist - Stampin 411 & Just Us Girls Challenges

I lost all sense of time tonight, but managed to get this card submitted to two fabulous challenges: Stampin 411 sketch challenge and Just Us Girls embossing resist technique challenge!!

This week, I seem to be doing some old, favorite techniques which has been sort of fun! There are so many ways to do embossing resist. For this card, I chose to emboss with clear powder, spritz the card and using ink refills, colored in the image. Hadn't tried the technique like this before, but I really like how it turned out! I think I'll try doing an entire background with this technique.

Brayered Sky Tutorial

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
White Glossy and layering cardstock
Post-It notes
Rubber brayer
Sponge
Coordinating Dye Inks
Black Ink
Stamps Lovely as a Tree used in sample
White gel pen

Step 1—Place “torn” post-it note to white cardstock to mask snow area

Step 2—Ink brayer with the lightest color of dye ink and roll across sky area until all ink is off brayer. Roll some more to blend.

Step 3—Repeat step 2 using the second lightest color and cover only part of previously inked area.

Step 4—Repeat step 3 with darkest color and covering only part of previously inked area.

Step 5—Sponge along post-it note horizontal line with darkest color as well as top and; sides of sky

Step 6—Remove post-it note.

Step 7—Stamp images with black ink.

Step 8—Finish card

Remembering Mom

Although this card was inspired by four challenges, I made it in memory of my mom, Anne. She passed away 3 years ago after a short illness. I'm grateful to say we were very close even though we "disagreed" all the time :) It wasn't until I got older that I realized how blessed I was to have a mom like I did - one that loved me more than life itself, stood by me even when she didn't agree with me, sacrificed so much, always wanted me to be happy and have the best life could give - and prayed for me constantly. She was an amazingly strong woman who exemplified how to be caring, compassionate and loving. She never met a stranger, loved her family passionately and walked her journey faithfully. I just hope to be half the woman she was. I miss her.

If you can, hug your mom today.

Just Add Ink inspired this card with their Just Add a Flower Challenge. I hadn't had a chance to use the new Stampin Up Blossom Petal Punch and this challenge was the perfect opportunity! The edges of the petals are heat embossed with white and glitter applied. (p.s. this punch and it's matching stamp set are only available in the current Occasion Mini which ends Saturday, 4/30! They may or may not be carried over to the new full catty - no word has been given yet).

Getting up early this morning to help our church with a community Easter egg hunt certainly had it's advantages. Whew...finished the card for The Paper Players #42 Color Combo and Card Pattern #110 Sketch Challenges! It was such a busy day and I've missed doing some of the challenges so I really wanted to combine these two.

The card also includes a SNEAK PEEK into Stampin Up's SUMMER MINI CATALOG...the flowers were made with a new punch!!! That's all I can say - you'll have to stop back on May 1st to see the entire catty - or sooner for more "teasers" of new stamps, DSP & accessories!!

Watercolor Butterfly - Paper Players #40 & Stampin Royalty #65

I broke out the heat embossing stuff for Stampin Royalty & The Paper Players challenges this week! I'd almost forgotten how much fun good 'ole embossing can be (thanks Stampin Royalty for the heat embossing challenge) and coupled with watercoloring, the results can be a real "wow". Colors used: Kiwi Kiss, Baja Breeze, Not Quite Navy.

The flower was created by punching out DSP with the Scallop Circle Punch, layering the pieces and attaching together with a corduroy brad, then scrunching up.
